What to wear under your ski jacket

After making sure you have the best ski jacket, you’ll want to make sure you get a warm and comfy base layer to keep you toasty on the slopes. In fact, what you wear under your ski or snowboard jacket is just as important as your outwear.

It’ll keep you warm on cold days and give you mobility for when you hit the more challenging stuff. (Of course you’ll also want to make sure you know what to wear under you ski pants too).

I always think slim fitting clothing is best—and adding additional layers to these is the best way to bundle up on the really frigid days out there. Good base layers and long underwear should serve you a few seasons, and often can be worn for summer hikes etc.

Hot Chillys

I have long sworn by Hot Chillys as my favored brand of base layers and long underwear for skiing. The microfleece pull-over was a longtime standby, as well as a sleek, body fitting long sleeved shirt.

Under Armour

Another well-known maker of base layers, Under Amour is a good choice for something to wear under you ski jacket. Especially for aggressive skiers who often find themselves sweating on the slopes, this brand is a good choice.

North Face

A prominent brand in ski and outdoor gear, North Face is known for its high quality (albeit expensive) gear. The North Face XTC line of base layers is certainly very nice and sure to be both warm and comfortable.

Polar Max

Helly Hansen

The Ekolab half-zip is made from superfine New Zealand merino wool and protects the planet with Polatex eko fleece made with 70% recycled material, and protects you from the planet’s coldest climates.

Terramar

For your base base layer (the layer under your other base layers), you can’t do much better than a silk layer. The Terramar is made from a filament jersey silk that’s a versatile knit fabric.
