Toshiba NB100 Netbook—functionable and compact, but certainly not the best in the world of netbooks
When netbooks were first released in 2007, they took the market by storm, enticing everyone with their compact size and lightweight and usability as a perfect on-the-go computer. Seeing how well these mini laptops were selling right off the bat, every manufacturer seemed to hop on the netbook boat, releasing their own versions of these computers made for the traveler. Toshiba, the king of budget friendly notebooks, was no exception to this trend, releasing their NB100 Net book in 2008. However, while this little netbook is certainly no worse than many of the other models out there, it is also no better, offering up few improved features at a slightly inflated price.
The Toshiba NB100 is certainly not the worst choice to be made when purchasing a netbook. The 8.9 inch screen surely makes it compact, though many have complained about the tiny keyboard that makes typing a much more difficult task than it should be. While this model has some potential, it has a few crucial missing components that could make it a lot better—including a bigger keyboard, better battery life and sleeker, more modern design. However, the Toshiba does have some redeeming qualities, like having convenient back end ports and easy access for those who want to upgrade to more ram.

Seat-of-the-pants rating: 6 out of 10
Again, it’s not that the Toshiba NB100 is a horrible choice when it comes to picking out a netbook, but it’s just not the best choice. With so many different manufacturers making very simlar (yet better) models of netbooks, it may be hard to justify the price tag on the NB100. In fact, some other manufacturers’ models (like the MSI Wind or Samsung NC10) are not only easier to use and better designed, but are also less expensive. This little netbook has also only been marketed to the Europe and UK crowd, and probably with good reason. While Toshiba may have rushed the NB100 to get something out on the market, don’t rule out Toshiba on coming up with a better and improved netbook model sometime in the near future.
