The North Face Mountain Guide Jacket
The North Face Mountain Guide Jacket – Classic hard shell jacket
For a classic mountaineer shell, try the North Face Mountain Guide Jacket. This tough jacket offers all the weather protection you could need for winter activities. The outer shell can keep you dry during backcountry skiing or mountaineering, while the stretch panels offer you freedom of movement on technical terrain.
The outside of the North Face Mountain Guide Jacket is a two layer waterproof Gore Tex Pro shell. The shell is highly breathable and features full seam tapping to ensure you stay as dry as possible. There is also a fully adjustable and removable hood that is designed to fit over helmets.
The North Face Mountain Guide Jacket also includes stretch fabric panels. These stretch panel help offer you unparallel freedom of movement. The rest of the basic features are all here. There is a powder skit, several pockets on the outside, a security pocket, adjustable cuffs, and a cinch hem cord.
The quick & dirty:

Moosejaw: $399
Why the rock:
- Waterproof, breathable, seam sealed

- Hem cinchcord
Why it bites:

Seat-of-the-pants rating: 9 out of 10
While the North Face Mountain Guide Jacket does have a few flaws, the benefits far out way them. The only things I don’t like about this jacket is that the hood isn’t as high quality as the rest of the jacket. And when you detach the hood, there is no designated place to put it.
