Millet Prolight 27 L Pack
Millet Prolight 27—The mountaineers dream pack
While I grew up skiing and hiking in the Colorado Rockies and know a thing or two about good backcountry gear, throwing my skis on a pack and huffing it up a ridge to get an amazing line, I am just not badass enough to be an American Mountain Guide Association-certified mountaineering woman. I will also never be able to ski like my little brother, who has the balls to hit some truly terrifying lines and likes to pull back flips off big cliffs, but such is life.
That being said, when I saw that an American Mountain Guides Association certified guy tested the Millet Prolight pack while scaling multi-pitch canyons in Eldorado Canyon (very near to where I was born and raised) and summiting and then skiing down 14,000 foot Longs Peak, I trusted what this guy had to say.
The tester thought this pack was “perfect.” The stripped down model of this pack (weighing only 2.2 pounds) is perfect for those who like to go up, and then like to ski down just as much. While the lightweight pack can’t carry a snowboard, a A-frame style ski straps are super quick and easy to use.
The pack is also a great size—just big enough for warmer-weather overnight trips or day-trips touring the backcountry in the winter. The pack also features a waterproof gusset on the main compartment, which will keep your gear dry even in the deep powder.
The flexible frame rods move with your body, making it ideal for those who want to feel like they aren’t wearing any pack at all when bombing down mountains. The waist belt and shoulder straps are also built for comfort, so you won’t be hating your life during the entire climb to the top of the ridge or couloir.
This pack also has a water hydration compartment, compression straps, an ice-axe holder and waistband pocket for easy access to your essentials. There is also a special camera pocket, so you can keep you digi safe and have it easy to access so you don’t miss any killer shots.

A strong “perfect” recommendation from a man who likes to climb 14,000 foot mountains and ski down them is enough for me to give two thumbs up to this bag. With it’s super lightweight construction, this bag was meant to be best when you are going up. It’s also built to be comfortable, and the frame moves with your body after you’ve unstrapped your skis and are bombing that amazing line.
The waterproof gusset is great for storing extra layers. The hydration pocket ensures you’ll stay hydrated and at your best on the mountain and the pockets make it easy to organize your stuff. The downside to this pack is that it does not carry a snowboard, but for skiers out there, this is a great pack for the serious mountain man or woman.
