At first glance the Marmot Matterhorn 30 Pack may not look like your typical day pack. That’s because it isn’t. The Marmot Matterhorn 30 Pack is in fact a day pack, but it is designed for highly technical up and back climbs and hikes. While the pack is designed to be a day pack for technical climbs it can also handle overnighters if you are a light packer. In fact, the Marmot Matterhorn 30 Pack even has a number of cool features that you aren’t likely to find in your day pack or backpack.
One of my favorite things about the Marmot Matterhorn 30 Pack is a small feature in the grand scheme of the pack, but its just super cool in my opinion. So, just what is this mystery feature? The backpanel of the pack can be removed and used as a bivy pad. How cool is that? Talk about some serious packing! Better still is that nether the pad or the backpanel are sub par. The backpanel is actually compression molded and uses airflow technology. They only part of this backpanel/sleeping pad that could be considered lacking is its size. As a sleeping pad it only measures to about 22 x 30 in.
Because the Marmot Matterhorn 30 Pack is first and foremost designed as a climbing daypack, it is important that the pack fit snugly and comfortably. It is also equally important that the pack be able to conform to your body movements. The harness system in the Marmot Matterhorn 30 Pack can do just that. This is made possible by the WrapSure system. You will also find a number of other great features inside and out of the pack as well. There are ice axe pockets for your axes and other cold weather gear, multiple compression straps, and a number of other bells and whistles.

While I love just about everything that Marmot makes, I have mixed feelings about suggesting the Marmot Matterhorn 30 Pack to the average Joe. While the Marmot Matterhorn 30 Pack could perform well for just about anyone, I don’t think the average Joe could really appreciate it. However, if you do some serious one day summits, gear heavy explorations, or other technical sports; then the Marmot Matterhorn 30 Pack might suit you well.
