When traveling to rainy destinations it’s always a good idea to have a durable raincover. But with some many hostels offering covered camping, another important feature to look at is ventilation.
Camping in tropical locations can get miserable in poorly ventilated tents; The Spitfire is anything but. Without the raincover, this tent is 90% mesh, allowing for plenty of ventilation and cross breeze. You may loose most of your privacy, but at least you won’t wake up sweating in the middle of the night.
Of course, if you can’t find covered camping, there is an optional raincover. While rain covers are great, the Spitfire’s falls short. Testers have said, “the raincover is a bit short at the foot of the tent, allowing raindrops to backsplash through the mesh canopy.” That said, I think you’ll stay pretty dry, unless of course your camping on the beach durring monsoon season.
The Eureka Spitfire UL has a, simple two pole system. This makes it quick to setup in any condition. The raincover is also quick to set up, it snaps into place with color coded clips. With a little practice you can have this tent set up in no time at all.
Why the Spitfire UL Tent is awesome:
- Only 2 ½ pounds
- Super cheap at $180
- Great ventilation
- Easy to set up
Why it’s not so cool:
- Raincover is a little under par
- Taunt pitches require some stakes and guide lines
