Digital Nomad Computer – Inspiron Mini 9
Inspiron Mini 9 – Made for the traveler and not the worker.
It seems like Dell is jumping on the bandwagon of mobile computer user. Or, as Dell likes to call it, the digital nomad market. While the digital nomads of the world are sure to love this cheaply priced and compact computer, serious business persons might find it a little limiting.
The Inspiron Mini 9 isn’t designed for massive work flow, but more as a way to stay connected. With the Inspiron Mini 9 you’ll get all the staples you need in a computer, but none of the luxuries. You can easily connect to the internet, send emails, upload photos, and some other basic things.
One thing any digital nomad is sure to like about the Inspiron Mini 9 is its price tag. Even the most budget savvy traveler out there can’t argue with the $349 starting price tag. While the lower end model of theInspiron Mini 9 is ready to go out of the box, most people will probably want to upgrade to the higer end version. With a starting price that low, who wouldn’t want to upgrade?
The basic Inspiron Mini 9 model gets you a 8.9 inch 1024×600 display, an Intel Atom CPU, 512MB of RAM, and a 4GB solid state hard drive. The 802.11g is standard on all models, but Bluetooth connectivity is available for an extra charge.
As I mentioned before, I think most people will opt for the upgraded version. For around $399 you can get upgraded to Windows XP and a 8GB solid state hard drive. The top end model of the Inspiron Mini 9 tops out at 1 GB of RAM and a 16GB SSD.
One feature I think is cool about the Inspiron Mini 9 that other traveler based computers don’t have is online storage. Dell has worked out some custom deals with online storage company Box.net. The Inspiron Mini 9 comes with 2GB of free online storage. If you need more space there are special packages just for digital nomads.
