Connexion by Boeing: Free then Defunct
Connexion, Boeing’s in-flight wifi internet service is now free until it will be discontinued by the end of the year. Some airlines may have their service disconnected sooner than that, and there are no specific details.
Interestingly enough, I received an email with this updated information yesterday, although in the email they state that the service will be free from Oct 2nd forward.
I used this service on one of my last flights, and I’m sad to see it go. Yes, it was a bit expensive but for me I thought it was worth it. The usability was well above other satellite services I’ve tried (like starband, hughes) and pretty reliable.
Hopefully the rumors of Panasonic replacing Connexion are true. It’s supposed to be faster and even potentially cheaper and we will keep this momentum of wifi on airplanes going forward. Now, we just need a laptop power outlet in every class of seat for those longer flights.
