Byer Maine Military Cot – Great for long term stays.

I know a camping cot isn’t exactly “travel gear”, but I wanted to share my experience with this one. While cots aren’t normally what you think of when you think travel gear, they still have their place. They are a great idea for car camping when you have plenty of room for packing, base camps that you will be staying at for a lengthy period of time, or just as extra beds at cabins. Whatever your reason for needing a cot, the Byer Maine Military Cot has pretty much set the standard. It is tough, comfortable, and can be packed up fairly small.

I used to live off of one of these every summer when working as a white water rafting guide. So I feel like I am a pretty good candidate to write a review about them. All and all the Byer Maine Military Cot is a pretty standard cot. It is comfortable as is, but if you add some sort cushion or sleeping pad to it, it is almost as comfortable as a bed. Add one of those Big Agnes Sleeping pads with the memory foam and the Byer Maine Military Cot might actually be more comfortable then your bed!

Another cool thing about the Byer Maine Military Cot is that since its design is pretty standard, you can use all kinds of cool cot accessories with it. What’s that you say? You didn’t know they had cot accessories? Oh yeah, they have tons. One of the most standards is a full length pocket organizer that has special spots for everything from cameras to magazines to flashlights. They also have other stuff such as rifle pockets, shelves for hanging clothes, fan stands, and much more.
