Best Travel Hammocks – lightweight, compact, and portable travel hammocks
Ever since spending a few nights at Rocking J’s Hammock Hostel in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica, I have been totally stoked on hammocks. Until then I had only been in those old school American styled rope hammocks – you know those ones that look like a fishing net and dig uncomfortably into your back.
Well it turns out that there are several companies out there devoted to making the most comfortable, lightweight, and portable travel hammocks around. These travel hammocks are perfect for a weekend camping trip, day at the beach, or round the world trip.
Not necessarily intended for sleeping in like the best backpacking hammocks, travel hammocks can be quite roomy with plenty of room for you and your closest friends. I was lucky to try out a few of these travel hammocks this summer and here are my favorites:
The Hammock Bliss Triple
Measuring over 8 feet wide and almost 10 feet long, the Hammock Bliss Triple is the world’s largest portable hammock. Kids will love hanging out in this hammock all day, couples will love the extra snuggle room, and strangers will be drawn to its immensity. The hammock is pretty lightweight at 26 ounces and fits into a permanently attached travel bag. The attached climbing strength rope can easily be wrapped around a tree and tied using the handy knot tying instructions included.
Eagles Nest Outfitters DoubleNest Hammock
The Eagles Nest Outfitters DoubleNest Hammock is by far the easiest hammock I’ve set up. Hang up is a breeze with the tree-friendly SlapStrap Pro Hammock Suspension System. You just slap the straps around a tree, attach the carabiners at the desired length, and you are good to chill. The Eagles Nest Outfitters DoubleNest packs in the peeps up to 400 pounds. Weighing in at about the same weight as the Hammock Bliss Triple it packs down to just a tad smaller.
Byer Traveller Lite Hammock
The Byer Traveller Lite Hammock wins for the lightest and most compact travel hammock. A great entry-level hammock, the Traveller Lite only costs around $20 making it an excellent gift for that hard to shop for traveler on your gift list. Only downside is it doesn’t come with its own rope so you have to figure out your own way to rig it up.
