Asus Eee PC 1000 Netbook
ASUS Eee PC 1000 netbook—the original compact netbook perfect for the flashpacker
Less than two years ago, there was no such thing as a netbook. Today, these little compact computers have burst onto the scene—continuing to get faster, more powerful and easier to use, all while staying small, lightweight and highly portable.
ASUS was actually the first company to release it’s version of the netbook—a small, lightweight, compact and low-cost laptop computer. The name “Eee” comes from it’s advertising slogan, which states: “Easy to learn, Easy to Work and Easy to play” and the The newest version of theASUS Eee netbook holds up to its slogan—integrating a more powerful processor, a bigger screen and a bigger keyboard.
The new Asus Eee has an Intel Celeron processor and a linux based operating system, though newer models of this netbook also run Windows XP. While this mini computer has less memory and less processing power than standard laptops, what it lacks in performance it makes up for in convenience and portability.
The ASUS Eee has a 10 inch screen and weighs just over 2 pounds. It features a larger screen than before (now 10 inches rather than 7) and larger keyboard, easier to use keyboard. The Asus Eee 1000 also boasts a 1.6Ghz Intel-Atom operating system. The original Eee PC required some compromises in overall utility in order to meet its price point, but newer models have brought more functionality in exchange for somewhat higher prices. With a 10″ screen that’s full “web width” resolution, an Intel Atom processor, and a rated battery life of nearly eight hours, the newer models may cost more, but are usually worth the difference in price. The newer, bigger screened models also weigh slightly more (2.43 pounds versus 2), but the larger keyboard makes actually using this thing a whole lost easier.
