500,000 GB MP3 Player
When I got my 30 gig video iPod a few years back, I thought to myself, how in the world will I ever fill this up? To me a 60 gig iPod was just absurd. Short of filling it up with movies, I have no idea how anyone can own that much music. Now, granted Im not a huge music kind of guy, I still have my fair share of music, videos, podcasts, and movie on my 30 gig iPod and still have a good bit of room left on it. Recently a article on Digital Trends was published about the possibility of a 500,000 gig mp3 player.
All I have to say to that is; What the hell for?
Do you have any idea how big a 500,000 gig hard drive is? I do graphic design work on the side and as a result I have a ton of enormous files on my computer. I used a 500 gig (not 500,000 gig) to store all these files and haven’t even come close to filling it up. How on earth could you download enough songs to fill up 500,000 gigs of space?
By today’s standards, a mp3 player that can hold 40,000 songs is huge. If this technology comes through, that number will sky rocket into an astronomical figure. I dont even think I 40,000 songs, let alone 400,000 songs. I guess will all that extra room I’ll have plenty of space to store my pictures, videos, porn, work, podcasts, emails, e-books…..
Aside from the whole super mp3 opportunities this micro technology offers, it could me a whole new way of life for computers. With such a small hard drive with such a large capacity, there is no telling what type of applications could be constructed in the future. No longer will programs be limited by the amount of hard drive spae on your computer, but by a processor that can keep up with them.
What thoughts do you have on this technology?
