3 Great Travel Planning Books
There’s no shortage of travel guide books, books that list 1001 places to see before you die, and plenty of great tales from the road books. What there is a shortage of is good books to help you plan a round the world style trip.
I have spent many an hour browsing the books at my local Barnes N Noble and other large chain book stores. I practically have my own seat in the travel section of several of these stores. One thing I noticed was that many of these travel guides and other books had general information to help you paln your trip, but nothing in much detail.
Below is a list of 3 books I thought to be very helpful in the planning and logistics of round the world type travel. By round the world TYPE travel I am referring to extended travel such as spending 3 months in Costa Rica or backpacking around Europe.
The Smart Travelers Passport: 399 Tips from Seasoned Travelers
This pocket sized book is brought to you by Budget Travel Magazine. As its name suggests, the book is full of some extremely helpful tips. Many of the tips are things new and novice travelers wouldn’t know until they spent some time on the road. There are also a handful of tips that even the most seasoned traveler might find helpful.
The Packing Book – Secrets of the Carry On Traveler
A cool book that discusses the art of packing from a “carry on travelers” point of view. If you are looking to pack light, this book is the way to go. With more than 100,000 copies sold, its obvious there’s something worth reading here. The book talks about things like the basic carry on packing list for adventure travel, packing a two compartment carry on, and much more.
Vagabonding
Probably one of the most know books on the subject of vagabonding and round the world travel is Rolf Potts book, Vagabonding. This book is written from a true travelers point of view. The author has lived out of backpack for well over 10 years and knows a thing or two about travel.
